ComplianceNumeric Reading

Meter Primitive -- Numeric Reading

How to enter numeric measurements and compare them against compliance thresholds for tasks like waterline testing.

Overview

The Meter primitive is used for compliance tasks that require recording a numeric measurement and comparing it against a defined threshold. If the reading exceeds the allowed limit, the system flags a variance and requires a remediation note.

How It Works

When you open a task that uses the Meter primitive, the completion form displays:

Threshold Display

Above the input field, the system shows the threshold requirement in a human-readable format:

Must be < 500 CFU/mL

The display combines the comparison operator, threshold value, and unit. The supported operators are:

OperatorSymbolMeaning
lt<Less than
gt>Greater than
lteLess than or equal to
gteGreater than or equal to
eq=Equal to

Reading Input

A numeric input field labeled Reading where you enter the measured value. The unit of measurement (e.g., "CFU/mL") is displayed next to the input field.

As you type:

  • A green checkmark appears if the reading meets the threshold
  • A red warning triangle appears if the reading exceeds the threshold (variance detected)

Variance Handling

If the reading triggers a variance (fails the threshold check), a remediation prompt appears with a required note field. You must describe the corrective action taken before the task can be submitted.

The prompt shows a reason such as "Threshold breached" along with the actual value and the expected range.

Submission

The footer button reads Save Reading. After submission:

  • A reading that meets the threshold sets the task status to Completed
  • A reading that exceeds the threshold sets the task status to Completed with Failure and the remediation note is recorded

Evidence Fields

In addition to the numeric reading, the task may require supporting evidence:

  • Notes -- Additional context about the measurement conditions
  • Photo -- A photo of the test device, meter display, or lab results
  • Documents -- Lab reports or test certificates

See Uploading Evidence for details on evidence requirements.
