AI SOP Generation

The first step gathers information about your SOP to help the AI generate relevant content.

Description

In the Tell us about your SOP field, describe the procedure you want to document. Be specific about the equipment, process, or workflow. The description must be at least 20 characters long.

Examples:

• "Weekly cleaning procedure for the Midmark autoclave"
• "How to replace burs on the CEREC milling unit"
• "Patient intake and consent process for new patients"

SOP context type

Under This SOP is about..., select one of three options:

• Existing Equipment -- Select a piece of equipment from your inventory. The AI uses the equipment's manufacturer, model, and type to produce more accurate content.
• Equipment Type (not in inventory) -- Manually enter the equipment type, manufacturer, and model. Useful when the equipment has not been registered yet.
• General Procedure -- Select a category from the list (e.g., infection control, patient care, administrative procedures) for SOPs that are not equipment-specific.

Select Continue to proceed.

The AI analyzes your description and suggests up to four SOP topics, each categorized as Usage, Maintenance, or Other. Topics are displayed as selectable cards.

Selecting topics

• Select one or more suggested topic cards. A checkmark appears on selected topics.
• The badge at the top shows how many topics you have selected (e.g., "2 topics selected").
• You can deselect a topic by selecting it again.

Adding a custom topic

Select Add your own topic to enter a custom SOP topic. Provide:

• Topic Title (required, minimum 10 characters) -- e.g., "How to Calibrate the X-Ray Sensor"
• Brief Description (optional) -- What the SOP should cover

Select Add to Selection to add your custom topic to the selection.

Selected topics summary

A summary panel at the bottom shows all selected topics as badges. Select the x on any badge to remove it from the selection.

You must select at least one topic to continue. The button label updates dynamically (e.g., "Continue with 2 Topics").

Select how comprehensive your generated SOP should be. Two quality levels are available:

Standard SOP

Available on all tiers. Takes approximately 45 seconds to generate.

Includes:

• Detailed step-by-step instructions
• Expert warnings and pro tips
• Troubleshooting guidance
• Verification checklists

Comprehensive SOP

Professional tier only. Takes approximately 2 minutes to generate.

Includes everything in Standard, plus:

• Real-time web search for accuracy
• Specific part numbers and interfaces (for equipment SOPs) or ADA, OSHA, and HIPAA guidelines (for general procedure SOPs)
• Video tutorials and articles or helpful resources and references
• Manufacturer-verified details or industry-verified best practices

Select your preferred quality level, then select Continue.

The final step lets you review and refine your selections before generating.

Reviewing topics

Each topic is displayed in an editable card where you can:

• Edit the title -- Adjust the SOP title directly
• Edit the description -- Modify or add detail to the description
• Add additional notes -- Specify focus areas, protocols, or standards to include
• Remove topics -- Select the x button to remove a topic (when multiple topics are selected)

Equipment context is shown below the topic cards if applicable.

Single topic generation

When you have one topic, select Generate SOP to create the SOP immediately. The AI generates the content and saves it automatically. You then see a preview of the generated SOP with options to:

• View SOP -- Open the saved SOP detail page
• Edit in Editor -- Open the SOP in the manual editor for further refinement
• Create Another -- Start a new SOP creation

Multiple topic generation

When you have multiple topics, select Generate [N] SOPs to submit all topics for batch generation. SOPs are generated in the background -- you can continue using the app while they are being created.

After submission, a confirmation screen shows:

• The list of topics being generated with a loading indicator
• A note explaining where to find your SOPs once ready (SOP Library, or the training path if created from within one)
• A button to navigate to the SOP Library or Back to Training Path
