Creating Training Paths
Create structured training paths, add SOPs in sequence, organize with categories, and assign paths to your team.
Build structured training for your team
Training paths let you organize SOPs into curated learning sequences for onboarding, skill development, and compliance training. This page covers how to create a new training path, add SOPs, and organize the content.
Creating and managing training paths is a Professional tier feature. Essential tier users can view existing training paths but cannot create or edit them.
Creating a new training path
Open the Create Path dialog
Navigate to Knowledge > Training Paths tab and select Create Path in the page header. The Create Training Path dialog opens.
Alternatively, if you have existing paths, you can select Browse Templates to start from a pre-built template that pre-fills the dialog fields.
Enter path details
Fill in the following fields:
- Name (required) -- Give your training path a descriptive name (e.g., "New Hire Orientation", "Sterilization Room Protocols").
- Category (optional) -- Assign the path to a category for organization. Select an existing category, or select + Create new category... to create one inline.
- Description (optional) -- A brief summary of what the training path covers.
- Goals (optional) -- What trainees will achieve after completing the path (e.g., "Understand all sterilization protocols and pass the competency check").
- Target Audience (optional) -- Who the path is designed for (e.g., "New dental assistants").
- Difficulty Level (optional) -- Select Beginner, Intermediate, or Advanced.
- Icon -- Choose from 11 available icons to visually identify the path. Options include book, graduation cap, star, shield, heart, alert, wrench, clipboard, timer, monitor, and growth.
- Required for all staff -- Toggle this switch on to mark the path as mandatory training.
Add SOPs to the path (optional)
In the Add SOPs section at the bottom of the dialog, you can include existing SOPs in the training path at creation time.
Use the search field labeled Search SOPs... to find specific procedures. Select the checkbox next to each SOP you want to include.
Selected SOPs appear in a Selected SOPs list above the search. Each selected SOP shows:
- Its position number in the sequence
- The SOP title
- Up/down arrows to reorder
- An x button to remove it
You can always add more SOPs after creating the path. It is fine to create an empty path first and add SOPs later.
Create the path
Select Create Path to save. The dialog closes and your new training path appears in the list.
Adding SOPs to a training path
After creating a training path, you can add SOPs from the training path detail page. Select Add SOP to open the Add SOP page, which offers four methods:
Browse your SOP library and add procedures you have already created.
Select Link Existing SOPs to open a dialog where you can search and select from your existing SOPs. SOPs already in the training path are excluded from the list.
Estimated time: about 1 minute.
Recommended. Generate new SOPs with AI, automatically linked to the training path.
Select AI-Assisted Generation to open an inline wizard. The wizard uses the training path's goals, target audience, and difficulty level as context to produce more relevant SOPs. The generated SOPs are automatically added to the training path.
Estimated time: 5-10 minutes.
See AI SOP Generation for the full wizard walkthrough.
Upload a PDF or Word document to convert into an SOP and add to the path.
Select Upload Document to open the upload wizard. The new SOP is automatically linked to the training path on save.
Estimated time: 2-5 minutes.
Start from scratch and build an SOP in the guided form editor.
Select Write Manually to open the SOP editor. The new SOP is automatically linked to the training path on save.
Estimated time: varies.
Ordering and organizing SOPs
SOPs in a training path are presented in a specific order that defines the learning sequence. You can manage this order from the training path detail page.
Enter edit mode
On the training path detail page, select Edit to enable edit mode.
Reorder SOPs
In edit mode, drag and drop SOPs to rearrange their order in the sequence. SOPs are numbered to indicate their position.
Remove SOPs
In edit mode, select the remove action on any SOP to remove it from the training path. This does not delete the SOP itself -- it only removes it from this path.
Exit edit mode
Select Done to save your changes and exit edit mode.
Editing path details
To update the training path's metadata after creation:
Enter edit mode
On the training path detail page, select Edit.
Open the Edit Details dialog
Select Edit Details to open the editing dialog.
Update fields
Modify any of the path fields: name, description, icon, goals, target audience, difficulty level, required status, or category.
Save changes
Select Save to apply your updates.
Managing categories
Categories help organize your training paths into logical groups. You can manage categories from the Training Paths page.
Creating a category
There are two ways to create a category:
- Select Create Category from the Training Paths page header.
- Select the Create Category button at the bottom of the category list.
Either method opens an inline form where you enter:
- Category name (required) -- e.g., "Foundational Training"
- Icon -- Choose from 12 available icons
- Description (optional) -- A brief subtitle for the category
Editing a category
Hover over a category header and select the pencil icon. An inline editor appears where you can change the name, icon, description, and featured path (the path displayed as the hero card).
Deleting a category
Hover over a category header and select the trash icon (admin only). A confirmation dialog warns that training paths in the category will become uncategorized. Select Delete to confirm.
Deleting a training path
To delete a training path:
Open the training path detail page
Navigate to the training path you want to delete.
Select the delete button
Select the trash icon in the header actions area.
Confirm deletion
A dialog asks you to confirm: "This will permanently delete [path name]. This action cannot be undone." Select Delete to confirm, or Cancel to keep the path.
Deleting a training path is permanent and cannot be undone. The SOPs within the path are not deleted -- only the training path container and its ordering are removed.
